Butterfly Wedding Cakes

We have featured butterflies a number of times on this site.  It is a popular wedding theme for wedding invitations, favours and table decoration but we had to look a little harder to find gorgeous butterfly themed wedding cakes.  This seemed a little surprising because the staged tiers of a wedding cake lend themselves perfectly to have butterflies perched at each level for a pretty minimalistic style.  Featured above our 12 of the best finds.

A.  All in white this delicate butterfly cake is part of the contemporary collection from Celeb Cakes.

B.  Also from Celeb Cakes this design features individual butterfly wedding cakes with a larger cake on the 5th tier.

C.  I am a fan of Not on the High Street which features hundreds of small cottage industry suppliers and is a perfect site to find those individual finishing touches that you might struggle to find from larger stores.  Not on the High Street detail who the manufacturer is so it is worth Googling them to find out more about them and to see whether the same product is available by buying direct.  This 3 tier square butterfly cake is made by Cakes by Robin which have their own website at www.londoncake.co.uk.  You will find their butterfly cake under their Modern Collection.  The Not on the High Street listing for Cakes by Robin has a good close up of the sugar crafted butterflies.

D.  This cake from Alison J Swayne is absolutely gorgeous.  This vintage birdcage cake design is stunningly original and the designer has resisted the temptation to cover it is butterflies.  The overall effect is natural and elegant; perfect for a summer garden wedding celebration.

E.  This pink and blue design reminded me of the CCA Occasions butterflies wedding invitation design in pink and blue which was featured recently on  the Wedding Stationery Gallery.  It would coordinate rather well and can be found under the Wedding Cakes section from Cakeydora

F.  I don’t think there is one wedding cake from Maisie Fantaisie that I do not like and with a bold claim that their cakes taste as good as they look this Blue Butterfly wedding cake must be truly scrumptious.  The cake features handmade sugar bow and butterflies.  Although based in London Maisie Fantaisie offer a nationwide delivery service.

G.  Butterlies, feathers and diamantes.  The ultimate in delicate finishes for this flouncy free spirited wedding cake from Special Day Cakes.  Available as a 3 tier or 4 tier cake.  A little off topic here but whilst browsing their site you must check out their unique helter skelter wedding cake.  I have never seen anything like it!

H.  Butterflies and Daisies have a whole range of butterfly cake toppers which enable you to decorate your own baked cake or a shop bought white iced cake (check out the plain iced white tiered wedding cake from M & S).  This enables you to make your own creation at a fraction of the cost.  Since there is an M&S in most major towns and cities you can order online and pick up at your local store.  Adding the cake topper is an absolute breeze.

I.  It is difficult to see in this image but the icing on this cake is the palest of blues.  The butterflies on this cake are extremely delicate and the large butterflies flying from the top tier have large ruffled wings.  Available in a variety colours this cake is available from the aptly named White Butterfly Company.

J.  This original monochrome butterfly wedding cake is made from feathered rice paper to produce an unusual but suitable delicate backdrop for the black butterflies that seem to dance around the cake as if carried by the breeze.  Available in three sizes from cake4fun.

Butterfly Crackers
Butterfly Crackers

These dainty DIY crackers from The Last Detail are perfect for understated and elegant reception decor.  They come in packs of 10 for £3.99 and have a delicate gold butterfly and flower pattern on ivory background with gold cord to tie each end.  The section you fill is 5cm long and the diameter is approx 2.5cm so is ideal to fill with the traditional 5 sugared almond favours or a few small chocolates.  You could also double them up as place cards by attaching a name tag when tying the ends, that way you can personalise each cracker filling to each guest.

pink-tea-light-holder

For a pretty, country garden themed wedding reception, these pink butterfly tealight holders from Laura Ashley would be gorgeous.  For a table of eight, I would place three or four intermittently around the table, and your guests will be mesmerised by the little tealight flickering away inside making it look as if the butterflies are dancing about.  Alternatively you could place one on each female guests place setting and double them up as favours, at £5.87 each they make a lovely table decoration or favour.  They could also be used with insect repellent candles if you are hosting your reception outside so that your guests aren’t bothered by insects.  If you don’t like the smell of citronella, there are others with the aroma of lavender and herbs that are a natural insect repellent, Something For The Wickend have a range of candles for every occasion.

Wedding Pass the Parcel ….  no, this not just a gimmick to keep the kids quiet at the wedding reception.  This is grown up pass the parcel courtesy of Cox and Cox to keep the grown up entertained and makes a great ice breaker for when your guests first take their seats.  These brightly coloured surprise balls are adorned with a foil butterfly and each one had 10 layers of crepe paper which each conceal a quirky charm.  Each ball has a diameter of 14cm (about the same size as a side plate) and costs £14.00 each (or £12.60 each if you buy during the current Cox and Cox sale).

If you have no more than 10 guests on each table then I guess you will need one ball per table.  They come in different random bright colours so don’t expect them to match with the rest of your table setting.  If this is a concern then why not ask the waiters to hand them out with the coffees after the wedding breakfast.  They are a lot less fattening than chocolates.

Butterfly Hair Claw

This sweet little butterfly hair claw from Glitzy Secrets is perfect for a little flower girl to wear in her hair.   No fussy pins that will stick in her head, just a lovely accessory she will adore and want to keep forever.  Whatever style of jewellery you are looking for (well as long as it’s glitzy) you will find whether it’s vintage style or street chic, and the prices are great too.  They even do a range of garters which have a charm on them which you can remove after the wedding day and put on a chain as a keepsake.

Orchid Cupcakes
I think cupcakes instead of the traditional tiered wedding cakes are a fantastic  idea, not only do they look stunning on a cascading display stand, but it allows you to incorporate different colour schemes and flowers, as the cakes such as this one by Carolyn Mackenzie are individually priced.  These cupcakes with Phalaenopsis orchids are £5.50 per cake, which you could have for all the adults and then incorporate some butterfly or rabbit cupcakes for the children.  You can also have different types of cake such as chocolate sponge, victoria sponge or fruit cakes this way, as lets be honest not everyone likes the traditional fruit cake, and if you’re going to spend a few hundred pounds on a cake you at least want it to be enjoyed.

There are oodles of butterfly hair clips around but this is the first time I have come across a butterfly wedding tiara.  I am glad to say that the Paradise Head Band from Glitzy Secrets is a real stunner.  For brides who have chosen a butterfly theme for their wedding then this is an absolute must.I cannot stand tiaras that are covered in multi coloured gems and look like the designer has rummaged around their bead box and used up any old odds and ends they can find.  This tiara exudes quality and is adorned with nothing more than sparkling clear AB crystals.  The feature I look most however is the butterfly iteself which is you look carefully is double layered which which I can only imagine would look even more beautiful in the flesh.  The glancing head of the bride would reveal the sparkling detail of the butterfly to really make it come alive. At £29.99 it is an absolute bargain.  I want one !
