Art Couture

Lace, romance and vintage go hand in hand, so with lace as a major style trend in the world of wedding dresses, this beautiful gown from Art Couture ticks all the boxes required to pull off the look.  Lace covers the entire dress for a very romantic look with a hint of sexiness where it covers the body only at the neckline and across the back.  The satin bow that starts under the bust creates an empire line which elongates the body and creates shape around the bust, the skirt then falls out to an A line shape which then forms a long train for a touch of vintage style.  This is style AC127 and cost around £1200 and is available from a range of stockists throughout the UK and Europe

Coast

The Cheryl Ruffle Dress from Coast is the perfect way to dress your older bridemaids if you are having a pastel sorbet colour theme without them looking like they’ve fallen in a tub of neapolitan ice cream!  The fitted bodice with sweetheart neckline and contrast band at the waist create curves and shape  whilst the layers of different coloured silk ruffles give a sweet girly look.  The dress is available in sizes 6-18, comes with detachable straps and costs £150 from Coast.  The great thing about a pastel sorbet theme is that you don’t have to have everything perfectly matched, as long as you choose pastel shades you can have flower girls in pastel pink and lemon and older bridesmaids in this pastel blue and lemon and it will work perfectly.  You can then mix up the bouquets in a mixture of pastel shades to bring all the colours together for a slightly ecclectic look.

Rockmywedding has got to be the fastest growing wedding blog in the UK.  It was only launched in the Autumn of 2009 and is already getting over 60,000 page views a month.  Not quite as many as this site but then we have been around since early 2008.

The reason for its popularity is that it delivers everything its target audience craves.  Brides want to be inspired with unique ideas for their wedding and Rock my Wedding hits the mark every day of every week.  Rather than churn out page after page of product write ups the writers feed off the gorgeous imagery from respected wedding photographers and add the bride’s personal insights and their own comments to accompany the snaps.   They build up real life wedding stories which serve to enlighten and inspire and never to bore.

I was itching to share some of the fantastic photography here in this post but since I have not asked for permission I will have let you look for yourself.  Be warned however.  I challenge you not to lose at least half an hour in browsing heaven.  Go and grab a coffee or glass of wine (depending on the time of day) and enjoy.

My hats off to Charlotte, Rebecca and Adam, the three talented people behind the site.  I am looking forward to seeing the new Love Lust List of recommended suppliers next week.

Daisy Wedding Theme

If you are planning a Spring wedding then a fresh daisy theme is perfect and these daintiest of flowers can look great on a reception table.  Daisies remind me of rolling fields, young love, free spirit, summer festivals and the great outdoors. Marquee or outdoor humanist weddings suit the daisy look perfectly and if you are looking for a hippyish 70’s vibe with a carefree feel then some of these ideas may help create the mood.

A.  A bit of DIY is required to make these brown daisy pillow favour boxes.  You will find everything you need at Go Wedding Favours.  There is a wide variety of different shapes and sizes and the daisy decoration is added afterwards.

B.  These beautiful Daisy Votive Candles from Marks and Spencer are £5 each and would look beautiful on the reception table.  Replacing the tea lights with some scented ones can add some extra ambience.  Make sure you test them out first however as you don’t want to overpower your guests with a sickly floral scent.

C.  Also from M&S are these lovely artificial flower daisy jugs which I think look great for a less staged table setting perfectly in keeping with a hazy summers day theme.  Real gerbra daisies or large wild daisies would probably look better and would look great in a mish mash of different jugs collected from charity shops.

D.  These gorgeous hand crafted daisy place cards from Olivia Samuel are heavenly.  They have a twisted wire stem and come as part of a coordinating set of Daisy stationery which for the table includes favour boxes, napkin rings, and menus.  They currently have a bundle offer which gets you a 20% discount if you order three items from the range.

E.  This gorgeous free standing menu is part of the Vintage collection from Picture Palace which features a delicate daisylike flower made from Austrian Silk lace.  An unusual alternative to the traditional folded menu.

F.  These personalised wildflower seed kits from Chloe Beck feature a large eco friendly paper daisy flower on the packet.  The personalised label is available in a variety of colours to match your colour scheme.  A great unusual choice of favour and one that your guests can remember your wedding by come Spring and Summer.

G.  These tiny daisy table decorations are designed to be scattered on your tables.  They are laser cut from mirrored acrylic so will really catch the light.  A central cut away swirl at the centre adds a contemporary flourish.  Get them in packs of 40 from the Handcrafted Card Company.

H.  Caesars Wedding Favours have a whole section on daisy themed wedding accessories.   Featured above are their “He Loves me Daisy Seed Tins” and Daisy Watering Cans.  Click here to see these and all the other products.

I.  Sumona Italian Daisy Sweet Favours.  Not your obvious look white and yellow centred but perfect if you are looking to introduce some candy colours to brighten up your tables.  Candyfavourboutique offer these petal sugared sweets which are handmade in Sulmona, Italy.  They are wrapped in fine coloured tulle or tinted cellophane and secured to a stiff wire stem and decorated.  If you looking for the more traditional white daisy look you will find a similar sweet creation from Go Wedding Favours.  These daisies have a large 7cm head made from real Italian chocolate dragees with a crispy shell.  With their long 32cm stem they look stunning draped across a dinner plate or table napkin.

Many brides look for inspiration online and in magazines to find the perfect theme for their wedding and there are lots of great ideas to be had.  The final day is usually a hotch potch of different bits and pieces of inspiration the bride has picked up along the way in the wedding planning journey.  Unfortunately you only have one chance to get it right and it is all to easy to make costly bad decisions along the way.  I was drawn to a particular blog from Aimee Dunne recently titled “Wedding Tips : Savvy Savings” which gave some very useful and practical advice to ensure you get your wedding day how you want it and on budget.  Aimee Dunne is a wedding planner covering the Kent, London and Surrey regions.  Many people discount the need for a wedding planner from day one but it is a well proven fact that a savvy wedding planner can easily recoup their own costs by negotiating with suppliers.  A wedding planner knows the typical costs of products and services within the industry and through their own network of contacts and wealth of experience can create your perfect day not just on budget but under budget.  I like to think of a wedding planner as already having done your wedding rehersal a hundred times over…. just with somebody else’s wedding.  They know what works and what doesn’t and more importantly they reduce the number of times after the wedding you hear yourself say “it was a wonderful day, but it would have been nice if….. ”

If you are still looking for the perfect theme to suit you and your partner then get some inspiration from Aimee’s mood boards.  They are only a starting point but are great for opening a dialogue so your planner so they know your likes and dislikes and the kind of wedding you are aiming for.  Aimee Dunne is a member of the UK Alliance of Wedding Planners and you can find more about Aimee at www.aimeedunne.com

Butterfly Wedding Cakes

We have featured butterflies a number of times on this site.  It is a popular wedding theme for wedding invitations, favours and table decoration but we had to look a little harder to find gorgeous butterfly themed wedding cakes.  This seemed a little surprising because the staged tiers of a wedding cake lend themselves perfectly to have butterflies perched at each level for a pretty minimalistic style.  Featured above our 12 of the best finds.

A.  All in white this delicate butterfly cake is part of the contemporary collection from Celeb Cakes.

B.  Also from Celeb Cakes this design features individual butterfly wedding cakes with a larger cake on the 5th tier.

C.  I am a fan of Not on the High Street which features hundreds of small cottage industry suppliers and is a perfect site to find those individual finishing touches that you might struggle to find from larger stores.  Not on the High Street detail who the manufacturer is so it is worth Googling them to find out more about them and to see whether the same product is available by buying direct.  This 3 tier square butterfly cake is made by Cakes by Robin which have their own website at www.londoncake.co.uk.  You will find their butterfly cake under their Modern Collection.  The Not on the High Street listing for Cakes by Robin has a good close up of the sugar crafted butterflies.

D.  This cake from Alison J Swayne is absolutely gorgeous.  This vintage birdcage cake design is stunningly original and the designer has resisted the temptation to cover it is butterflies.  The overall effect is natural and elegant; perfect for a summer garden wedding celebration.

E.  This pink and blue design reminded me of the CCA Occasions butterflies wedding invitation design in pink and blue which was featured recently on  the Wedding Stationery Gallery.  It would coordinate rather well and can be found under the Wedding Cakes section from Cakeydora

F.  I don’t think there is one wedding cake from Maisie Fantaisie that I do not like and with a bold claim that their cakes taste as good as they look this Blue Butterfly wedding cake must be truly scrumptious.  The cake features handmade sugar bow and butterflies.  Although based in London Maisie Fantaisie offer a nationwide delivery service.

G.  Butterlies, feathers and diamantes.  The ultimate in delicate finishes for this flouncy free spirited wedding cake from Special Day Cakes.  Available as a 3 tier or 4 tier cake.  A little off topic here but whilst browsing their site you must check out their unique helter skelter wedding cake.  I have never seen anything like it!

H.  Butterflies and Daisies have a whole range of butterfly cake toppers which enable you to decorate your own baked cake or a shop bought white iced cake (check out the plain iced white tiered wedding cake from M & S).  This enables you to make your own creation at a fraction of the cost.  Since there is an M&S in most major towns and cities you can order online and pick up at your local store.  Adding the cake topper is an absolute breeze.

I.  It is difficult to see in this image but the icing on this cake is the palest of blues.  The butterflies on this cake are extremely delicate and the large butterflies flying from the top tier have large ruffled wings.  Available in a variety colours this cake is available from the aptly named White Butterfly Company.

J.  This original monochrome butterfly wedding cake is made from feathered rice paper to produce an unusual but suitable delicate backdrop for the black butterflies that seem to dance around the cake as if carried by the breeze.  Available in three sizes from cake4fun.
