Lovely Favours

Whether you wedding is planned for the height of summer or abroad, or you just want to bring a vintage feel to the table decorations, a beautiful cotton hand fan from Lovely Favours will make the perfect favour to give to your female guests.  They come in black, magenta, navy, natural and red so will suit most colour themes from monochrome to tropical or oriental and you can choose to add a lace and pearl tie to give a vintage look.  Use them simply as favours or add a name tag as well to double them up as place cards.  Personally I would use them fanned out on the place setting for a vintage look and attach a name tag to it and then use the personalised pebbles also from Lovely Favours for the mens place cards and favours.

Express Chapter One
Express Chapter One

If you are the organised bride who has been planning their wedding for the last 5 years then this article will be of no interest but there are a surprising amount of couple who for one reason or another need to get their invitations out quickly.  Maybe you simply just cannot wait to get the word out that you are getting married.   Many personalised wedding stationery suppliers offer an express service.  An priority service charge of around £50 usually applies and for this  you can expect an expedited service that gets you your wedding invitations within a 2 or 3 days of proof approval.  Basically, this means that you jump straight front of the production queue and your order is despatched by next day courier.  This can often save up to 2 or weeks off of standard delivery time depending on which design and supplier you go for.

The two large wedding supplier publishers in the UK (CCA Occasions and Collisons) offer an express service.  Their stationery is available in most high street department stores such as John Lewis and Debenhams.  Their express service is also available online through Olivia Samuel who, in addition to CCA and Collisons,  offer express delivery on Letter Press of Cirencester and Chapter One wedding stationery.  The Chapter One express range is available with free express service at the moment when you quote EXPRESSPURE at checkout.

Popular personalised wedding stationery suppliers Bride and Groom Direct also offer an express service although this option is not obvious until reach the checkout and does not apply to certain designs that have handmade elements.  Again 2 working days is typicals for this service and the charge is £60 on top of the price of your stationery.

Of course, if you are in a real hurry and do not mind dispensing with personalised wedding invitations then there are many off the shelf packs available from high street stores like of Marks and Spencers and John Lewis.  These are usually available in packs of 10’s and have standard wording with dotted lines to write the invitors names and guest names.   Both suppliers listed above also have print your own packs too.

The beauty of having young bridesmaids is that usually they will be more than happy to be dressed in pretty, cute, girly dresses, and you have the chance to dress them in the sort of dress you would love them to wear, or indeed would have loved to have worn as a little girl yourself.  Of course the biggest issue with dressing little girls is that you really don’t want to spend a fortune on a dress that not only will they grow out of within a year, but that chances are it could get wrecked after eating, drinking and playing at your reception.  This is where high street stores like BHS come in.  They have some of the prettiest dresses around and prices range from £40 to £80.  This gorgeous Fleur Fuschia Petal dress is £65 and has petals in the skirt and corsages at the waist and at the back, and of course what little girl wouldn’t want to carry this cute little dolly bag to complete the look.

Friday 17th September 2010 is wear your dress to work day.  It’s your chance to dust off your wedding dress for another very special chance to wear it with pride.   If you are getting married this summer (as many of our readers will be) then its the perfect excuse to leave it hanging in the wardrobe for a little longer after the big day before packaging it away for posterity.  Why would you want to make a fool of yourselves in front of your work colleagues I hear you scream… well there is a very good reason of course.  They will be sponsoring you and if you can persuade your work friends to do the same you will no doubt be sponsoring them too.  You will all look silly together and Breakthrough Cancer, the organising charity,  will receive your well sponsorship funds.

Brides at Work

Breakthrough Cancer is a pioneering charity saving lives and changing futures, through research, campaigning and education – removing the fear of breast cancer for good.   With the support of the National Wedding Show the charity is calling on all your support.  There are no strict rules so if you can find a dress (and it fits) then you can be a part.

The whole of the wedding party can get involved too.  Encourage your friends, family and colleagues to take part.  Whether they are the bride, groom, bridesmaid, bestman, mother of the bride or usher they can wear their outfits to work too.                    ……. Breakthrough website

There are a whole load of fundraising ideas on the Breakthrough website, including a readymade pdf sponsorship form that you can download and a link to a speacial page on the popular Justgiving website that takes the hassle out of collecting the sponsorship money from your friends and family.

Rainbow Club

I’ll be honest, I was drawn to this bridal shoe by it’s name, Moscow Mule, which just evokes many happy student day memories, or more acurately student night memories.  That said this little shoe from the Else collection at Rainbow Club has it’s own merits apart from the name.  Having worn ridiculously high heeled sandals on my own wedding day, I cannot stress enough the importance of wearing comfortable shoes with, dare I say it, a sensible size heel.  Remember you will be wearing your wedding shoes all day and a hobbling bride isn’t an attractive look.  The Moscow Mule from Rainbow Club has a 6.5cm heel with an ankle strap to keep those shoes on once you start dancing the night away, the strap also means you can wear tights or stockings, something that is impossible with mules.  The front part of the shoes has an attractive two tone detail and the whole shoe can be hand dyed which is great if you are looking to use these for bridesmaid shoes, the Colour Studio feature on the website is great for getting an idea of the colours.  The Moscow Mule shoes cost £49 and come from the Else collection which is inspired by high street fashion making them very affordable especially since the dying service is free of charge.

Diamond wedding rings come in all shapes and sizes and different materials.  white gold, yellow gold, 9 carat, 18 carat, platinum, single stone, multi stone.  What it usually comes down to is much bling there is in the middle.  We have picked 5 of the best 1/2 (0.5) carat gold diamond rings.  The 0.5 carat refers to the total amount of diamond here but remember the bigger the stones the higher up the price scale you tend to go.  A single 0.5 carat diamond solitaire ring will usually be more than double that of a similar style cluster of diamonds totalling 0.5 carat.  The good news for the grrom to be or the bridal couple is that solitaires are traditionally used for the engagement ring.  So, for a diamond wedding ring a cluster or channel of diamonds is the usual style which helps reign in the budget a little.

Monsoon

A teal colour theme for a wedding works really well at  evoking a tropical theme if mixed with other hot colours such as oranges, yellows bright pinks and reds, but it can work equally well for a simple yet striking colour theme if coordinated with white or ivory.  This Daphne Dress from Monsoon is perfect if you are going abroad to get married and taking a bridesmaid or two as it will travel well since the skirt is ruffled so won’t show any creases.  It has a fully boned bodice and detachable straps as well as the silk satin tie being detachable which makes it versatile if you have bridesmaids of different shapes and sizes.  The Daphne dress costs £150 from Monsoon which isn’t cheap but of course a style like this can be worn again and again.
